For the past year and a half Icon Metal has been documenting the process of design, fabrication and installation of the architectural spiral stair in Quay Quarter Tower (QQT), being developed by AMP Capital’s on behalf of its investors.

Consisting of 35 individual helical steel sections, finished in pristine white with curved glass balustrade and stainless steel handrail, it is the signature architectural statement by 3XN in this ground-breaking building.

The tower was designed by architects 3XN/GXN as a series of blocks, stacked at rotating angles to maximise harbour views and allow natural sunlight to flood the building, making it a striking addition to Sydney’s iconic city skyline. The angles of the exterior contrast with the organic curves of the interior, with the stairs at the centre to ensure the QQT community remains connected and inspired.

The results are simply breathtaking. We could not be more proud to be part of this landmark project. Thank you to the Head Contractor Multiplex, our QQT workshop and site team led by  Paul Sewell, James Scadden, Jim Barclay, Soc Kitsandonis, Neon Henwood, and to filmmaker Isabela Sandoli
